When this product fits
For merchants wanting a branded return request followed by GLS Point hand-in. Assess the country pair and local label options as one operating setup.
How the return moves
Configure the merchant return rules and receiving destination with GLS.
The customer requests the return and receives a PDF label or permitted QR code.
The parcel is handed in at an eligible GLS Point with its reference retained.

Label and hand-in requirements
The Italian service supports domestic and cross-border returns through GLS Points and a customisable returns portal. Customers manage the request through the portal. Check the specific origin and destination, participating drop-off points and available label format before publishing instructions. The portal offers a printed PDF label or a QR code at the GLS Point. The cited offer limits UK and Swiss participation to domestic shipments. The cited UK option excludes shipments from Great Britain to BT postcodes in Northern Ireland.
The exception to design around
The cited UK and Swiss options are domestic only. Great Britain to Northern Ireland BT postcodes is excluded; country-network presence does not remove this restriction.
How to scope the transport and handling cost
Start with the real parcel profile and route. Ask who holds the carrier account, who issues labels and who receives the transport invoice. Compare the complete return movement with warehouse work priced separately. A customer-facing free return still has a payer behind it.
- Origin postcode, receiving postcode and expected parcels per month.
- Packed weight and dimensions, product category and any restricted contents.
- Selected hand-in channel, printing arrangement and collection requirements.
- Transport charges, relevant surcharges, customs work and failed-return handling.
Records that make a return traceable
Connect the order or RMA to the transport reference before the parcel leaves the customer. A portal request, carrier acceptance scan and warehouse receipt describe different events. Keep each one so customer service can identify where an exception occurred.
- Return approval and the exact label or code issued.
- Proof of hand-in or completed collection and the tracking reference.
- Actual warehouse arrival, parcel condition and item-count reconciliation.
- Inspection findings and the merchant’s approved next action.
What happens after carrier delivery
At the agreed receiving location, PickPaket’s handling scope is set for your project. Decide what must be recorded at arrival and which work can proceed automatically. Stock that needs a decision stays linked to its original reference.
Receive and reconcile
Match the parcel to its reference, record the agreed arrival information and separate unmatched or damaged arrivals for review.
Receiving & storageInspect to an agreed brief
Specify the checks, photos and grading criteria before work starts. Appearance checks, accessory counts and functional testing have different scopes.
Product checksRelease the next movement
Approve storage, repacking, restocking where applicable, or consolidation. Reconcile the release list before booking onward transport.
